Week of February 3rd

This week 7th grade students will be reading "Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed" from page 127 of the textbook. We will be analyzing craft and structure, with particular focus on character development and figurative language. Students in 8th grade will be completing their research for their research papers and then outlining their essays this week.


English 7
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we will complete a first read of Ray Bradbury's short story "Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed." As we read, students will be expected to annotate- paying special attention to figurative language and character changes and development throughout the story.

On Friday, and extending into homework over the weekend, students will be required to complete a 2nd read of the short story and complete a study guide as they read. Students should understanding the main idea from the first-read as a class, and should be able to hone in on details (directed by the study guide) independently during their 2nd read. Students will need to have the 2nd read and the study guide complete by Monday, 2/10.

Friday: Finish 2nd read of "Dark They Were..." on pages 127-140 of the textbook. Complete the study guide as you read.


English 8
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 8th grade students will be in the library completing the research for their research papers. Students are required to find 4 accurate and reliable sources and create a source card for each. If students have fewer than 4 sources by the end of class on Wednesday, they will need to complete their research independently during an Academic Prep period, or outside of school at home or a local library.

On Thursday and Friday, students will be outlining their research papers. They are required to use at least two of the four sources in their paper. Each body paragraph of the paper must contain cited information from a source. Students should use a combination of quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing to incorporate cited evidence into their writing.
