Week of December 11th

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have done a lot of preparing for our argumentative essay by reading argumentative articles written by other people. Some of those people have been journalists, your teachers, and even other students your age. Now, it is time for you to write your own argumentative essay! We will spend this week and next week preparing to write and then typing our essays on the Chrome Books. We will be using Google Docs to write this essay the same way we used it when you wrote your essays for Marking Period 1. This essay will need to be typed and ready to hand in by January 4th.

Grade 7
On Monday, you will receive notes on how to write a thesis statement. Our theses will have 3 parts: counter-claim, main argument and three reasons. It will follow this format:
___________(counter-claim)______________, _______(main argument)_________ because _____(reason 1)_______, ______(reason 2)______, and ______(reason 3)_______.

On Tuesday, your thesis will be due at the end of class. You will receive notes on the best way to choose evidence for your essay. I will then give you an article on your chosen topic and you will begin reading it to find evidence. You will need to finish reading and annotating the article for homework.

On Wednesday, you will receive notes on how to integrate evidence into your paper to support your main argument. We will have the Chrome Books and begin writing our papers.

On Thursday, we will finish notes on how to integrate evidence into your argument. You will continue writing your paper on the Chrome Books.

On Friday, you will receive notes on writing to a specific audience. You will continue writing, and probably revise, your paper on the Chrome Books.
