Week of February 5th

This week is shaping up to be another crazy week and we are all learning to be flexible as a result. Out schedule for the week might change depending on weather, but this week we will start our next pieces of writing in both 7th and 8th grade classes. Eight grade has the next formal essay due on Monday, Februrary 19th. This will be a narrative and its purpose is to entertain.

English 7
You all received notes on 3 types of figurative language last week: simile, metaphor and personification. You then needed to find examples of these in the radio play as we listened. There are also a couple questions for you to respond to in the packet. Periods 3 and 7 should have this packet complete to start this week. Period 1 should have this packet complete for class on Thursday.

Our next task will be to begin writing responses to the short story "Dark They Were, and Golden-Eyed." I have several questions for you to respond to and you will have the opportunity to choose whichever question you feel you can answer best. All questions will require you to pull examples from the text to support your response. Responses should be 3 to 4 paragraphs in length and should answer each part of your chosen question. Please be sure you are bringing your textbook with you to class every day so you can refer back to it as you write your response.

Last week you received notes on Narrative Writing and began brainstorming your essay topics. This week, you are going to take the next step in the writing process and outline your plot. You will have Monday to do this and the remainder of the week will be spent typing your narratives on Google Docs. These days might need to be adjusted based on weather, but you are guaranteed 5 in-class days to type your essay. That is one paragraph per day. The essay will be due Monday, February 19th. The essay must be typed. You should be very familiar with how to use Google Docs at this point, but if you have any questions, please let me know! Remember you can access your essay from any device with internet access and library hours for the towns in our district are posted earlier on this blog.
