Week of Sept. 10

All classes will be in the computer lab CDT testing on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. This is our beginning-of-the-year benchmark assessment. It will be graded on a scale.

English 7
Thursday and Friday we will read the explanatory text, "At the Crossroads" on page 228 of your textbook. This is meant to be an example for you to follow when you write your explanatory essay this marking period. It is key for you to know the following:
1. What the purpose of an explanatory text is (to explain)
2. What must be included in an explanatory text (facts)
3. What you should not include in an explanatory text (opinions/arguments)
4. What six questions and explanatory text must answer ( Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?)

Thursday: review the purpose of an explanatory text
Friday: review the six questions all explanatory writing must answer


English 8
Thursday and Friday we will read the explanatory text, "The Grand Mosque of Paris" on page 92 of your textbook. This is meant to be an example for you to follow when you write your explanatory essay this marking period. It is key for you to know the following:
1. What the purpose of an explanatory text is (to explain)
2. What must be included in an explanatory text (facts)
3. What you should not include in an explanatory text (opinions/arguments)
4. What six questions and explanatory text must answer ( Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?)

Once we have finished reading "Grand Mosque" we will complete the Unit 2 vocabulary chart on page 91 of your textbook. There will be a quiz on this vocabulary next Thursday.
