Week of October 15th

This week students will be working from the textbook and addressing concerns related to Explanatory Essays. Seventh grade students will begin the week by reading an informative essay from the textbook titled "Against the Odds." Eighth grade students will begin the week by reading an informative essay from the textbook titled "The Human Brain." Reading and discussing these selections is intended to  help prepare students for their next writing assignment: a research paper.

English 7
We will be completing paragraph bellringers this week. If you are absent at all throughout the week please make sure to make-up the bellringer from the day you miss.

We will be reading "Against the Odds" on page 446 of your textbook and comparing key elements of an explanatory essay to key elements of an informative essay. We will also be reviewing annotation strategies as we read. These skills will be important when writing our research paper in a few weeks.

At the end of the week we will complete practice rewriting sentence fragments and run-on sentences. As I graded explanatory essays that were due on October 5, I noticed this was an area of need. To address it we will be completing a Study Island lesson and some a packet for further practice.

Homework
Monday: none
Tuesday: finish reading and annotating "Against the Odds" if you did not do so in class
Wednesday:
Thursday: Complete run-on and fragment sentence packet if you did not do so in class
Friday:
