Week of April 8th

This week students will be gearing up to take the ELA PSSAs next week. Students will be taking these PSSAs on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. Seventh grade classes will complete a review packet of necessary terms that they will also use to prepare for their upcoming narrative essay. Students in eighth grade will participate in a review game tournament Tuesday through Friday.

English 7
Students will complete a language bellringer packet this week. The packet will be due on Friday and any work missed due to absence during the week should be made up by then. We will also complete a PSSA review packet Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. It will cover necessary terms and concepts related to the ELA PSSAs. We will also discuss plot structure during this review, which students will use during the month of May to write their narrative essays.

Homework:
Completed PSSA review packet due on Wednesday
Completed language bellringer packet due on Friday


English 8
Students will complete a language bellringer packet this week. The packet will be due on Friday and any work missed due to absence during the week should be made up by then. Classes will also compete in a Jeopardy-style PSSA review tournament. Students will compete against other classes Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The class with the highest point total at the end of the tournament will be declared the winners.

Period 7 homework: Write each of the following definitions 10 times. Each definition will be worth 1 point for a total of 100 points.
Noun- a person, place, or thing
Verb- expresses action or being
Pronoun- takes the place of a noun
Adjective- describes a noun or pronoun
Adverb- describes a verb
Simile- uses like or as to compare 2 things
Metaphor- compares without using like or as
Personification- gives human qualities to something non-human
Hyperbole- exaggerated speech for emphasis
Imagery- language that appeals to one or more of the 5 senses
