Week of February 19th

This is a new week, and it marks a new unit for our classes! This is an exciting time, because we get to shift the tone of our classroom and the focus of our discussion to uncover new ideas and develop different skills! Seventh grade classes this week will begin preparing to write their Marking Period 3 writing assignments, an informative essay. And eight grade classes, having completed their narrative essays, will move to unit 4.

Grade 7

We will begin working with Unit 3 this week and read an example of a good piece of informative writing. You will be asked to focus on how the author writes about his experiences using only facts, not opinions. After reading the example, we will take step-by-step notes on how to write an informative essay.

You will have next week to type the informative essay. The essay must be typed, and it will be due 2 weeks from today, March 5th, 2018.

Grade 8

We will move to Unit 4 this week. We will begin by reading our unit launch text, an example of an informative essay, and review the requirements for this type of writing. We will also conduct a brief discussion on the different types of intelligence people can have.
