Week of October 7th

This week 7th and 8th grade students will begin to look at a new type of writing. Seventh graders will have the opportunity to learn about letter writing and 8th graders will be reviewing dramas.

English 7
Students in 7th grade will take a vocabulary quiz on Monday. The words are from unit 3 of the textbook and can be found on page 227. The quiz is worth 20 points. Students should use their study guides from Friday to help them prepare.

For the remainder of the week, students will focus on letter writing. We will spend Tuesday reviewing the conventions of letter writing including greeting, headers, closing, and audience. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, we will begin a pen-pal project that I am very excited about! Students will receive a letter from their pen-pal on Wednesday and will have the opportunity to read and discuss them. On Thursday and Friday students will draft and revise their responses to their assigned pen pals.

English 8
This week 8th grade students will continue their learning about the holocaust through a different medium, a drama. We will review elements of a drama on Monday as an extension of Mrs. Markiewicz's class. Beginning on Tuesday, we will be reading selections from the play Anne Frank from the textbook, so it will be very important that students bring their textbooks to class with them all next week. Students will also be exercising their annotating and note-taking skills while we read.
